the driving public including substance abuse education and traffic safety
courses.

If you have a Florida Driver's License and are 55 years of age or older*,

you are now eligible to complete a
6 hour motor vehicle accident prevention course that
will allow you to receive a mandatory reduction on your insurance rate
for three years. (Florida Statute 627.0652)
* Check with your insurance company to determine whether you may receive this
benefit even earlier. As an example, some Geico Insured Drivers are eligible to
receive a rate reduction at age 50 .
The fee for the course is $15.00
Currently, Florida Statute 322.095 requires first time driver license
applicants to complete an approved
Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education Course , or complete a
Department of
Education approved
driver education course, before issuance of a driver license by the Division of
Driver Licenses. The Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education Course, focuses
on traffic education, substance abuse education, and DUI laws. Applicants
applying for their restricted or operator’s driver license must complete this
class prior to receiving their license.

course online and in the classroom.

or Brandon office during normal business hours or for telephone registration

Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles to offer approved services to the residents
of Hillsborough County. DUI
Counterattack,
Hillsborough,
Inc.’s ultimate goal is to reduce the incidence of alcohol related traffic
accidents, to increase awareness and insight for offenders, and to produce
positive behavioral change.
DUI Counterattack,
Hillsborough, Inc. offers the
Level I Course for first offenders, the
Level II Course for multiple offenders and the
Special Supervision Services Program for multiple offenders who have a 5
year or 10 year or permanent revocation, who meet the requirements of the
program and demonstrate trustworthiness to drive again on a restricted basis.
Registration for the DUI Course may be conducted in person, by mail or
online.

The Traffic Collision Avoidance
Course — TCAC is a state approved course for drivers who are referred by
the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles because they have been
involved in two
traffic crashes within a two year period or because they had property damages
of over $500 and/or injuries. The TCAC
teaches defensive driving techniques, behaviors and attitudes to individuals
responsible for causing traffic crashes involving property damage and/or
injuries.

The Basic Driver Improvement (BDI)
Course is a state approved, four-hour course which teaches defensive
driving techniques, behaviors, and attitudes to individuals who have received a
traffic ticket or who voluntarily take the course to improve their defensive
driving knowledge and skills. BDI also offers drivers an option to paying the
full cost of traffic tickets and have adjudication withheld as well as keep
points off their license and maintain "safe driver" status. In addition, the
BDI Course may hold insurance premium costs down and may be taken voluntarily
for a possible insurance rate discount. If the court or a judge has ordered you
to take a traffic class, then the Florida 8 Hour Judge Ordered course is for
you! Simply register for the course and start immediately. Please note:
this course is NOT for the 8 Hour Driving While License Suspended Course or the
8 Hour Aggressive Driving Course
